Today's #TakeMeBackMilton is Foster Street which was so named because it was originally the farm lane to Hugh Foster’s home. Today, we know it as Charles Street having been renamed for Dr. Charles Gardner who was a local Doctor and registered a small subdivision in this area in 1853.
Today's #TakeMeBackMilton is Mr. Lachlan “Lockie” McKersie who owned and operated the McKersie Funeral Home on Main Street for many years. He served in WW II as a leading Aircraftman. He retired as a Funeral Director and sold the business in 1980.
Today's featured historic property is the Milton Hotel which was located at the corner of Main and Brown Street (parking lot today). It was originally a frame building built by John Wallace. It was later bricked over. Over the years this Hotel/Inn had various names – Wallace, McGibbon, Mitchell or by some known as the upper hotel. Mr. William I. Dick who was a local Lawyer, Crown Attorney and School trustee. He was Chairman of the town’s first High School Board and honoured when a new public shool was built on Highside Drive. #TakeMeBackMilton
